Rev. Jesse Jackson Congratulates President Obama for Winning the Nobel Peace Prize

October 9, 2009

“I woke up to the good news and extend my congratulations to President Barack Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. The President is most deserving of this prestigious award.

In just a few months, he has set about the challenge of changing the course of the global conversation about peace and conflict resolution. He is restoring the integrity of the United States as part of the world of nations, offering a vision of peace emphasizing engagement, dialogue and diplomacy, not just unilateralism and military confrontation.

From Kenya to Egypt to Europe, all around the world, he is sowing the seeds of hope and transformative change, meeting the highest challenges of world leadership. He is leading the way in this era to tear down old walls and barriers, and build new bridges.

He sees the world through a door, not just a key hole, weaving the global human fabric into a new global quilt. Let us acknowledge President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize by redoubling our efforts to bring peace to the Middle East, to work for an end to military interventions and conflicts around the world, and a build a new culture and dialogue of peace and non-violent conflict resolution.”
