Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and PUSH for Excellence (PUSH Excel) is introducing a new after school tutoring program for students in 1st through 8th grade.
“America must find multiple ways to educate and motivate its youth,” said Rev. Jackson. “It’s getting more difficult to get into school and easier to get into jail. We are hoping to help reverse this trend.
The program will be open to children who are on the free/reduced lunch program from Chicago Public Schools that offers supplemental educational services.
“We believe that a safe and nurturing environment is the key to our children’s academic success,” said Dr. Bonita Carr, national director, PUSH for Excellence. “We individualize our reading program by incorporating comprehension, vocabulary, writing and study skills.”
PUSH Excel is committed to each child and their success in school. Since 1975, PUSH Excel has sought to encourage students and their parents to strive toward academic excellence and to make education and the development of America’s youth a shared community function. Annually, PUSH Excel expands educational opportunities to youth across the nation by providing academic scholarships, testing and college preparation workshops, oratorical competitions, and juvenile mentoring and early intervention programs.
The sign up deadline is Tuesday, October12, 2009. For more information, please call Dr. Carr at 773-256-2762.
