Washington, DC – November 11, 2017 - The Rainbow PUSH Coalition, founded and led by the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., will be joined by national and area clergy, leading appointed and elected officials, social justice and industry leaders on November 14-15, 2017. All conference activities will be held at the AT&T Forum for Technology, Entertainment, and Policy in Washington, DC and this year’s theme is “Disrupting the Arc: 21st Century Digital Solutions, Economic Opportunities, and Social Change.” This year’s annual event will include a special address from the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., and a range of influential and known leaders, including political correspondent Symone Sanders; author and educator Sheri Booker; singer and songwriter, Raheem Devaughn; attorney S. Jenell Trigg, partner, Lerman Senter; Brent Wilkes, National Director, League of United Latin American Citizens; Dr. Nicol Turner-Lee, Brookings Institution; Joe Torres, Free Press; and, Dr. Julianne Malveaux, President Emerita, Bennett College for Women, among others. The Rainbow PUSH Coalition will also convene religious leaders as part of their faith-based organizing initiative to embolden pastors and their churches around social justice issues, featuring a keynote presentation form Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Jr., senior servant emeritus, Metropolitan Baptist Church.

The annual day-long symposium scheduled for November 15, 2017 will have seven sessions:

• 9:00 am – 10:15 am - Breakfast Plenary – “Millennials, Hip-Hop Culture, Tech Activism, Social Responsibility”

• (Concurrent) 10:30 am – 11:30 am – “The Future of Work: How Automation Will Affect Communities of Color”

• (Concurrent) 10:30 am – 11:30 am – “Predictive Analytics, Algorithmic Bias, and Artificial Intelligence: Effects on the African American Community”

• 11:45 am – 1:30 pm - Awards Luncheon – “New Horizons for Economic Development and Empowerment”

• (Concurrent) 1:45 pm – 2:45 pm – “Data Privacy and the Impact on Historically Disadvantaged Communities of Color”

• (Concurrent) 1:45 pm – 2:45 pm – “Telling Our Stories in an Age of Disruption”

• 3:00 pm – 3:45 pm – Afternoon Plenary “Digital Inclusion: Race to the Finish, Getting Everyone Online”

This year’s conference will also bestow two Lifetime Achievement Awards, one of the highest leadership distinctions of the organization at the Telecommunications Luncheon scheduled on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. The inaugural Rainbow PUSH Coalition scholarship award will be presented to the Richard Wright Public Charter School for Journalism and Media Arts, Washington, DC, sponsored by the Motion Picture Association of America.

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition will also host The Legacy Affair on November 14, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. As a part of this evening celebration, we will honor the 2017 Top Engaged and Inspirational Leaders that are advancing media ownership, working towards closing the digital divide, and addressing disparities for people of color. Honorees are: Jotaka Eaddy, vice president of policy, strategic engagement, and impact for LendUp; D’Angela Proctor, senior vice president, original programming, TV One; Justin Velez-Hagan, executive director, National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce; and, the Ghost Note Agency, led by Brandon Willis, Steven Jumper, and Reggie Snowden. Special musical guest will include: R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn.
