The vigil will also honor the memories of two elderly African Americans randomly gunned down last week by a middle-aged white man at a Kentucky grocery store.

“We will not surrender to bigotry, violence or terror,” said Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. “We will always stand up to and speak out against the vile and dangerous movement that is trying to rip apart the ecumenical fabric of America.”

The bloodshed at the Tree of Life synagogue during Saturday morning services is the latest murderous rampage at a house of worship. In 2015, a young white supremacist walked into the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C. and shot to death nine African American worshipers who had warmly welcomed him to their bible study group. The year before in suburban Milwaukee, a neo-Nazi killed six Sikhs as they gathered in their temple.

Last year, in the first six weeks of the Trump Administration, mosques from Florida to Texas were set ablaze and vandals toppled 170 headstones in a Jewish cemetery in St. Louis.

Rev. Jackson and Rainbow PUSH convened faith leaders – Jewish, Christian and Muslim – for a community meeting and news conference to condemn the attacks and say no to the fear.

“We must not accept ethnic blaming and intolerance,” Rev. Jackson said at the KAM Isaiah Israel synagogue. “We must not adjust to the present odorous climate. We must resist – together. We’ve come too far to achieve the America of our dreams to surrender now.”
