Judy Pace Flood, the widow of Curt Flood, a center fielders, who once played 15 sessions in the major leagues for several baseball teams including the St. Louis Cardinals, Saturday said her husband’s decision to challenge the baseball commission broke the chokehold billionaire owners had over their players.

Flood made her remarks during the weekly Rainbow PUSH Coalition broadcast where she was presented an award on behalf of her late husband for his contributions to baseball players.

Thanking Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. for helping to save lives and their union during the 1980 fire strike, Kevin Betton, president of the African American Firefighters & Paramedic League, Thursday presented Jackson with a “Lifetime Achievements” award for his mediation skills that prevented more deaths.

The “rejected stones” of this nation must unite and form a moral agenda to change the current political paradigm that is anti-poor, racist, anti-voting rights and economically suppressive, according to Bishop William Barber, II who heads the New Poor People’s Campaign.

He made his remarks during day two of a four-day 47th Rainbow PUSH Coalition Citizenship Education “Make America Fair and Equal: 2018 Global Agenda” held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 151 E. Wacker Drive, during the Labor Achievement dinner.
